About The LCFR
Loudoun County Fire and Rescue provides emergency services through a combined effort as part of the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System; comprised of volunteers and career employees 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We strive to provide the highest level of efficient and professional emergency fire and rescue services to all who live in, work in, and visit Loudoun County and the seven incorporated towns. Utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and a staff of highly trained personnel located in strategically placed facilities, we respond to and mitigate hazardous materials and related life safety and property-threatening incidents.
LCFR operates out of 21 fire and rescue stations. The County is broadly divided into three geographical battalions, each administratively and operationally supervised by a battalion chief. The system is led by Systemwide Fire Chief James Williams, who is responsible for the supervision of the entire system.
Our Mission
It is the mission of Loudoun County Fire and Rescue to provide residents, business, and visitors with efficient and cost-effective fire protection, rescue, and emergency medical services.

Our History
Located about 25 miles from our nation’s capital, Loudoun County, Va., was founded in 1757. The first fire company in Loudoun County was formed on November 13, 1803, in Leesburg, an unincorporated town of about five hundred inhabitants.
LCFR has grown from 59 full-time employees in 1992 to approximately 718 uniformed career personnel to answer fire and rescue emergencies calls (as of July 1, 2025).
Loudoun County is one of the largest and fastest-growing data center hubs in the world. According to the Department of Economic Development, as much as 70% of all internet traffic in the world is routed through Loudoun daily. The County encompasses 520 square miles and has an estimated population of 440,000. There are seven incorporated towns in the County: Hamilton, Hillsboro, Leesburg, Lovettsville, Middleburg, Purcellville, and Round Hill.

Recruit School
LCFR’s Career Recruit School lasts approximately 26 to 30 weeks. Recruits will obtain numerous basic certifications such as the Virginia Department of Fire Programs Firefighter I and II, National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT), Mayday/Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) Training, and several other basic technical rescue training programs. All personnel receive any required training, and are compensated while in Recruit School.
Applicants with prior experience may be eligible to join an accelerated academy class.
