The hiring process can take approximately six months from the time of application to the time a final offer is given. To be placed in the eligibility pool, as well as filling out the LCFR Supplemental Question form, the selection process includes the successful completion of the following:

Please note: As part of the selection process, applicants may be disqualified for use of drugs, certain driving violations, or other factors based on selection criteria.
Fill out the application online. Candidates must also be sure to fill out the supplemental questionnaire linked in the job ad along with their application.
The online written test is offered every 2-3 months and must be completed within a set timeframe. This standardized general knowledge exam measures decision-making, memory, and how well candidates process information, recall details, and use sound judgement.
Candidates must complete or provide a certificate dated within the past year for the IAFF CPAT. This is a timed assessment in which candidates perform tasks that simulate the essential functions of a firefighter.
It’s important for candidates to remember to remain truthful during this process! All polygraph tests will be administered by an independent third-party polygrapher.

Conducted by our Occupational Health Provider, this goes over medical history and includes bloodwork, a pre-hire drug screen, a cardiac stress test, pulmonary function tests, audio hearing and vision test, among other things.
